Whenever a restaurant has words like ‘Finest’ and ‘Perfection’ in their titles and taglines; I have to review them!
I decided to opt for a ‘Finest Award Winning Fish & Chips’ takeaway from Peggotty’s. They claim its the plaice ‘where passion and simplicity create perfection’ (this wouldn’t be a ZFG review without a few puns!)
The outside of the restaurant has the traditional look and feel of an English chippie whereas the inside is more modern and sleek. I headed to the takeaway side where I was dreaming of a Chicken and Mushroom Pukka Pie (None left, if it was you who ate the last one- for Cods Hake, I’ve Haddock with you!)
– Cod and Chips
– Steak and Kidney Pukka Pie and Chips (Second Favourite)
– Curry Sauce
The waiting time was around 15 minutes where you could have a drink from the bar. It was wrapped up nicely however nearly dropped it about 10 times as there were no handles on the bag!
The cod was really tasty, the batter was light and crispy and the fish itself was flaky and fresh. The chips were very crispy (just how we like them!)
The Pukka pie was nice, pastry was a little too firm for me but still yummy. The curry sauce had a good little kick to it and was one of the nicest I have had on this Coast.
I would suggest parking on the main road where the Vic and Albert is etc (30 second walk) as there is limited parking outside.
I will definitely be ordering fish and chips from here again, if they started doing fishcakes, I’d be there every week!
