Having seen numerous ads for G-Wine on social media I decided enough was enough; I HAD to visit. Having picked the worst time to book (San Pedro Feria week)
We sat inside due to the noise from the Feria. The decor is great with some lovely quotes on the walls throughout. The small wine cellar/room was a nice touch as they are obviously passionate for wine (the name gives it away I know!!) I ordered a lovely bottle of 2018 Rioja Larrosa (18€) which was light and easy to drink (too easy nearly) which the girls also approved of!
– Avocado with tomatoes and seeds
– Baked Camembert (Mine)
– Langostines pil pil (Shared)
– Beef tartare
– Beef fillet with roasted potatoes (Mine)
-Marinated salmon with green risotto
-Wasn’t anything that took my fancy
The baked Camembert was to die for, absolutely beautiful- I could eat that everyday (I would probably be shopping for a 3 man tent to wear if I did) It was smothered in honey, figs, walnuts and pistachios. The langostines pil pil was a good size, lots of meaty prawns but lacked a little flavour- needed a bit more of a kick for us!
The beef fillet arrived and I was pretty much stuffed from the starters but I Camembert-it not getting through a good main course. The steak was cooked to perfection, juicy and was seasoned well. The veg was al dente so I was happy. English readers please note, the potatoes weren’t roasted like we know and love but were tasty nevertheless (YES I know we’re in Spain, you don’t have to post some BS boring comment telling me it. I know where I live!!)
I tried the salmon, which was also cooked very well. The risotto was a little dry for my liking. The meal could have with some more vegetables though (never thought I would say that) The beef tartare was a little disappointing, it was meant to come with fries which my friend declined. There was no mustard served and the presentation was a let down (plate far too small)
The staff were polite enough but the service was a little slow throughout. The restaurant was quiet and we felt we were ignored at times. I don’t mind pouring my own wine at supper, but others would disagree with it.
Overall it’s a lovely place, very relaxed, nice decor and the food and wine were both good. The location for me has good and bad points- It’s easy to find, but parking is tough at the best of times and it is right next to a road (not a main one though)
As my friend Arnie says “I’ll be back!”
